Massapequa is an outstanding village and census designated place (CDP) in the scenic southern area of the Town of Oyster Bay, Nassau County, Long Island, New York. At the time of the 2010 census, the population of Massapequa was approximately 21,685 residents. The village occupies a total area of 4.0 square miles, 3.7 being land and 0.4 water. Nearby places with “Massapequa” in their name are collectively referred to as “The Massapequas”.
Boasting a long, rich history, this area was originally home to the Lenape Indians, an Algonquian-speaking people who lived in coastal areas. One of the old schools in the district now serves as the Nassau County Police Academy.
