Brentwood is a splendid hamlet in the town of Islip, in Suffolk County, on Long Island, New York. At the time of the 2010 census, Brentwood had a population of approximately 60,664 residents. Brentwood was named “Modern Times” in 1851. Josiah Warren and Stephen Pearl Andrews established the colony on 750 acres. It was renamed “Brentwood” in 1864 after the town of Brentwood in Essex, England. In the first half of the 20th century, people came to Brentwood for the perceived health benefits of breathing the scent of pine needles as opposed to the pollutions of the big city. Children in Brentwood attend schools in the Brentwood Union Free School District. Brentwood High Schools is one of the largest schools in the state.
