Setauket-East Setauket, known as “The Setaukets”, are census designated places (CDP) in the Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. The villages have a population of approximately 15,477 residents as of the 2010 census. The major east-west roads are New York state Route 25A (Northern Boulevard), Sheep Pasture Road, and New York State Route 347. Setauket is accessible via Exit 62 on the Long Island Expressway. These major thoroughfares afford Setauket residents easy access to the area’s best shopping, dining, entertainment and recreation opportunities.
The Setaukets were the first settlements in the town of Brookhaven, having been founded in 1655. Begun as an agricultural community in the mid-17th century, Setauket was a center for activity during the American Revolutionary War, noted for the Battle of Setauket and the Culper spy ring. Beautiful, old historic buildings can be found in the Old Setauket Historic District. Although mostly residential, some commercial businesses can are located at the Port of Jefferson and in the Stony Brook area. With its village green, park, and mill pond, Setauket has a very New England feel. The Caroling Church built in 1729 and the Setauket Presbyterian Church, circa 1660 all add to the charm of the village. The Emma S. Clark Library situated on the village green is considered one of the finest on the island. The mill pond is found in Frank Melville Memorial Park. In addition to a rich history and a number of historical points of interest, the Setaukets also have excellent schools. The children of the community are served by the Three Village Central School District.
