Locust Valley, New York is an unincorporated hamlet, in the Town of Oyster Bay. Located on the North Shore of Long Island in Nassau County, the area was settled by English Captain John Underhill in 1667, when he purchased the land from the Matinecock Indians. The settlement was originally called Buckram and was referred to as such until 1856, when due to the abundance of Locust trees, the name was changed.
